Discover Biowest’s range of human-origin products: HIV-tested human serum, HIV-tested male AB human serum, pooled human plasma, and human serum albumin.
Plasma and serum are two liquid components of blood, differing in their biochemical composition and method of preparation. Plasma is the liquid fraction of blood obtained after centrifugation of a sample treated with an anticoagulant. It consists mainly of water, electrolytes, nutrients, hormones, and proteins, including coagulation factors such as fibrinogen. Serum, on the other hand, is obtained after blood coagulation followed by centrifugation to remove the formed clot. Its composition is similar to that of plasma, but it is devoid of fibrinogen and other coagulation proteins, which are consumed during the clotting process.
Human plasma and serum are collected from voluntary donors. Sterility of the by-products is achieved through double 0.2 µm filtration.
Serum and plasma are collected, imported, and processed in accordance with European regulations.
Each batch is rigorously tested and screened for hepatitis B (HBs), hepatitis C (HCV), and human immunodeficiency virus types 1 and 2 (HIV-1/2). Our human serum or plasma is sourced from countries registered with the French authorities. The country of collection is indicated on the certificate of analysis for each batch.
Human serum is available with specific treatments upon request.
